UNDERSTANDING REED BEHAVIOR

Understanding how to obtain optimum reed performance is a mystery of hit and miss for most players. As a doubler and oboe player I have explored reed making with a passion all my life. When our reeds cooperate we take chances ,enjoy ourselves and make the best music because of it.

In the last few years I have been hired to go to 6 reed related conventions as an endorser and product expert for different reed companies.I have explored and mastered some of the popular reed tools and helped many players consider overlooked areas in obtaining better performing reeds. I recently created my own reed tool “The Ultimate” available through this website and distributed by RS Berkeley.

The Ultimate is a Reed Sculpting that allows minute amounts of cane to be moved to lessen resistance and allow the reed to freely vibrate.
